The Duke of
Edinburgh Award Scheme
The Mount School believes in an all round
education for our pupils. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is a
non-academic activity which increases pupils’ confidence as well as
developing their personal and social skills. Whilst having fun and being
challenged students gain a new sense of responsibility, discover
different skills, have increased motivation, self-esteem and self
reliance.

Here are two excerpts from “My Duke of Edinburgh
Experience”:
I have learnt a lot thanks to this experience, not
only from the expedition, but the whole Award. Some things are more
practical such as pitching a tent, compass reading and trangia cooking,
but others more personal. I have become stronger, more confident and
learnt to motivate myself. During the expedition I had been suffering
quite a bit and had so many chances of giving up but I found strength
and motivation to keep me going and looking back I am so glad I did it
and achieved so much. This is an experience I will remember for the rest
of my life and something I will always be proud of.

Overall I can safely say that we all enjoyed both
of our Duke of Edinburgh weekends. Despite the rain and getting very
slightly lost we all managed to stay friends and arrive home in one
rather tired and bedraggled piece.
Our experience helped us to bond with not only each other, but with
girls in other years and even our teachers!
I feel proud of myself and the rest of my group for doing so well and I
hope we all go on to do the Silver Award and even Gold.
I recommend The Award to anyone as it is an amazing experience which
helped us become more individual, independent and probably braver. Not
only this, but it looks very impressive on your C.V. Most of all it was
a great weekend that I will never forget, ever!
