The Rockley Watersports Sailing trip runs
each year, usually in the first weekend in July. It
has been a very
successful trip and involves pupils from all age groups in the senior
school and all abilities are welcome. The trip is good fun (if a little
exhausting!) and gives the younger pupils the opportunity to mix with
girls from higher years and gives the older pupils the chance to show
responsibility and peer support to the younger girls.
This year we left
school on Friday 30th June and travelled by coach to Rockley Point in
Poole Harbour, Dorset. Upon arrival the girls are taken to Tower Park
Flumes for an evening of fun on the water slides. On Saturday the girls
were taken down to the sailing centre, where they are instructed about
safety and how to rig a sailing boat by the fully qualified instructors.
After a quick talk on basic sailing techniques, the girls were straight
out on the water for a full fun packed day of sailing. A few of them
came back soaking wet, but all had a good time! The evening was spent
playing a few field games (e.g. rounders) with the instructors. Sunday
was spent back on the water and more sailing got underway. The
instructors then get the girls to play some boat based games (e.g.
Sailing Polo) and races. Most years the girls take a trip on the boats
and lunch is taken with them to have at their destination on shore. Then
it was back on the coach after lunch and heading back to School.
I can thoroughly recommend this trip, even for those who have never
sailed before. If you are interested in coming this year, come and see
me as soon as possible for a letter and more information. Or for extra
information ask someone who has been before and you will hear how fun it
was! Mr
Broadhurst
