SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the Science Department
The curriculum of the Science Department addresses scientific literacy, practical investigation, key knowledge, concepts and appreciation of science historically and in everyday life. The department runs trips in every year level, science club and science quizzes and participates in science festivals.

  Curriculum
Years 7 - 8 Science classes are taught in mixed ability groups and encourage the learning of science through practical investigations and cooperative learning. The curriculum encompasses a range of science topics to facilitate an appreciation of all the key science areas. Links:

AS and A Level Physics

Year 9 Classes are also taught in mixed ability groups. However, they are taught in separate science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Electronics). This differentiation is provided to facilitate the transition into GCSE science in Year 10.

  GCSE
Years 10 - 11
We run Triple, Double and Single science classes to facilitate interest and their learning needs and entry into science A levels. We follow Edexcel IGCSE syllabi for all exams. The Exam includes 20% of marks for coursework and 80% for terminal exam.

  AS/A2
Years 12 - 13

We offer Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Girls choose the combination of subjects that fit their interest and need for their particular chosen career. For Chemistry and Physics, we follow the Edexcel syllabus. Whereas for Biology, we follow the AQA syllabus. Chemistry and Biology have a coursework component; but for Physics, they have a practical exam.
