Each Governor has an academic subject area to which they are assigned. They liaise with staff in that subject area and are free to visit the school and observe relevant lessons and activities with prior approval of the Headteacher. This ensures communication between the Governors and teachers and ensures an understanding of the schools operations. Governors are also involved in the sub-committees that meet bi-monthly and provide feedback of their activities and progress at the Governors meeting. Governors have been trained in Child Protection.

The school has six Governors meetings a year, usually in September, November, January, March, May and June/July. These meetings incorporate specific items such as the AGM, fee fixing and budget approval. The meetings are often preceded by a talk from a teacher, pupil or other specialist in order to inform and update the Governors on an area of interest / importance for example Interactive White Boards, Marketing, Trips Policy, School Parliament.

The Governors are the trustees of The Mount School Ltd Charity and are also Directors of the Mount School Ltd.  They are required by Companies House to complete a form upon appointment confirming this. These forms are supplied by the Bursar.   All Governors are expected to undergo an enhanced CRB check with the Criminal Records Bureau.  This enables freedom for Governors to be in School unsupervised.  Identification is require to do this, copies of which are held on file.  Governors have contact details of all fellow Governors and agree that their details are held on file within the Bursar’s office.
