Marketing Award 2007 |
| The
Mount School Takes Top Prize |
| The Mount
School has beaten off tough competition from secondary
schools around the country to take the top spot in the
Young Direct Marketing Awards 2007. A team from the school
came first in the Year 9 and 10 age group and the pupils
were awarded their trophy at the UK finals of the competition,
which was held at The Magic Circle Headquarters in London
on 15 June. |
| The pupils
undertook the work as part of a major awards scheme for
school children, organised by the Direct Marketing Association,
in which the team had to devise a direct marketing campaign
for one of three charities WWF, Barnardos
or Beatbullying. The team from the Mount School chose
to design a campaign for Beatbullying, targeting parents
through their children. |
| John Quinn
from Beatbullying, said: Direct marketing is an
important way for us to keep people informed about the
work that we do. We were very impressed with the new ideas
that the entrants came up with. It looks like there is
a generation of creatives out there with brilliant careers
ahead of them! |
| Mr Davies
from the Mount School said: Such an awards scheme
enables pupils to discover new interests and equips them
with real-life work skills. Researching and creating campaigns
for different charities has also enabled the pupils to
get a real grip of the issues and appreciate the importance
of charity work. We are of course delighted that our pupils
hard work has been recognised. |
| The Awards
were launched to help children work towards national curriculum
requirements by giving them direct experience of the creative
and business principles behind marketing communication.
As part of their work for the competition, the pupils
have gained valuable experience in four key subjects,
English, Business Studies, Art and Young Enterprise. The
skills the pupils have developed will be vital in helping
them work towards their national curriculum requirements.
|
| The competition
was designed to give pupils experience of one of the UKs
largest industries, worth over £37 billion a year.
Over 800,000 people are directly employed in the UKs
direct marketing industry which is often used by charities
as a vital means of generating much needed donations. |
Mike Barnes,
Director of Marketing and Business Development at the
DMA, said: The pupils can be very proud to have
got this far, as all of the entries were at a very high
standard. We hope that some of these young regional winners
will become direct marketing stars of the future and wish
them luck in the national final.

About the Young Direct Marketing
Awards
The Young Direct Marketing Awards
are run by the DMA and invite students to devise a direct

one of three charities. These Awards complement National
Curriculum requirements in English, Business Studies,

creative and business principles behind marketing communication.
The competition is open to school children from Years
7 to 10 (Senior 1 to Senior 4 in Scotland). Each school
