| Welcome to the Classics Department |
| All classes are mixed ability. Classical
Civilisation (the study of Greek and Roman Civilisation)

Latin or Classical Civilisation can be chosen as
an option. |
| Curriculum |
Year 7
The Romans in Britain are studied
to give us an understanding of our origins. The
Greeks from the days of Troy are studied to give
a historical perspective to the reading of the Odyssey
in English lessons. |
Years 8 - 9
The Cambridge Latin Course, following
the adventures of a Roman family in AD 79, is used.
A reading knowledge of Latin is taught. |
GCSE Latin
At GCSE 2 Latin authors are studied.
There is a paper on Latin background studies in
English, as a culture cannot be fully understood
through language alone; and a translation paper. |
GCSE - Classical Civilisation
5 Units are studied: 3 on civilisation
(Pompeii, Athletics and Roman Britain) and 2 on
literature (Oedipus The King and The Odyssey in
English) |
AS/A2 - Classical Civilisation
Three modules are offered. These
are all Archaeology and Art based. |
