Welcome to the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Department
Introduction

Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Department,
serves girls from overseas who join us speaking little or no English.
Girls are assessed when they enter the School and a personalised
programme of study with trained specialists is created.

Uniquely,The Mount School offers overseas students the best of both
worlds, being able to study a broad curriculum whilst being supported
by ESOL teachers.

Our specialist English language teachers help the girls individually with all
aspects of their work and provide excellent pastoral support.
Girls of all ages are entered into internationally recognised examinations
including PET, JET and KET awards, as well as the University of
Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE), IELTS and TOEFL (university entrance examinations).

The ESOL Department gives English lessons, prepares students for International Examinations and offers cross - curricular support for overseas students in a caring environment. Girls take part in the ESOL Christmas and Easter parties plus one trip per term to a cultural or historic site of interest. On leaving they receive a Record of Achievement documenting their contributions, extra curricular activities and exam successes.

‘The ESOL department is a particular strength of the school. The very good support it provides enables pupils with EAL to access the mainstream curriculum quickly.’

‘New pupils from overseas swiftly gain confidence in English with the support of the school’s English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) department.’
