Welcome to the Art Department

The Art Department is housed in two purpose built rooms. The main room has a printing press and the other has a well stocked library and computer equipment with Photoshop access. These facilities are used by all year groups. We also have a separate darkroom for photography.

Students build their confidence through the experience of a wide range of activity within the Fine Art framework. Each person will gain essential skills and the understanding that will enable them to express their ideas in different media including painting, printmaking, textiles, sculpture, mixed media and later on, photography. We maintain a strong belief in the importance of drawing. This is a discipline that underpins all work.

In Years 7 to 9 all pupils do Art. They have a double period each week. They can then choose to do Art GCSE in Years 10 and 11. We use the Edexcel Examination Board.

Regular Trips
Gallery trips are an important aspect of study to support classroom learning. We are lucky enough to have straightforward access to London’s major art collections. In recent years Year 8 visited the Courtauld Institute, Year 9 and 10 visited The National Gallery, and Year 11 went to Tate Modern.

Extra Curricular
The Art department holds a number of art clubs at lunchtime and after school. These include printmaking, photography, textiles and clay modelling. Art students also create the scenery for school productions. No wonder the Art rooms are a hub of creativity!

Exhibitions
There is always an interesting display of our artwork in the art rooms and in the school corridors. At the end of each year, we hold a large art exhibition in the gym to showcase the achievements of our students. We also exhibit the girls work outside the school including the Chorak Bakery, East Finchley and The Arts Depot, North Finchley.
