Drama at The Mount is creative and critical; active and reflective - students gain practical experience of performance, and the ability to consider theoretically the effectiveness of the core drama skills in use, both in their own and others' work. Whole class exercises, individual and group activities are part and parcel of each lesson; music, literature, art, current affairs and historic events are often stimuli for thematic or improvised drama.
Drama students indulge in an extensive Drama GCSE program, hosted by AQA exam board. Course units consist of an Acting option where students get the opportunity to study and perform scripted texts like Arthur Miller's Crucible, encouraging students to put theatrical techniques they have learnt in to practice on the stage. We also go on various theatre trips throughout the year, to see productions like 'The Railway Children' and 'Blood Brothers'. This not only equips our students with the tools they need to be successful in the written exam, but they also get the opportunity to watch professionals in their craft. |
