Welcome to the Design & Technology Department
Introduction

Design and Technology at The Mount School is based on the ethos of giving pupils hands-on experience with a variety of tools, materials and equipment, and then allowing pupils to utilise their skills within exciting and thought-provoking design challenges.

Our department is a forward thinking department and provides pupils with a wide range of experiences from Year 4 through to Year 11.

Our teaching focuses on practical tasks and excellence of presentation. Group discussions and analysis are also a valued element in teaching and learning.

We aim to:
Enable pupils to produce high quality outcomes in a good physical environment
Provide a stimulating atmosphere in order to maintain student interest, enjoyment and curiosity about technological aspects of their lives
Provide pupils with opportunities to work both individually and as members of a team

Build up a pupil's confidence in the subject based upon experience and good practice

Develop awareness of good health and safety practice
Enable pupils to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding, in order to design and realise quality products

The department offers additional 'Drop In' lunchtime sessions to assist all year groups with their class work and after school lessons are available throughout the year to support exam Design students. The department also has a popular lunchtime DT Club for Year 7.

Ultimately, we aim to offer our pupils as many opportunities as possible to broaden their horizons in Design and Technology and ultimately making them designers of the future.
