Welcome to the Music Department
The musical tradition within the school is strong both in and outside of the classroom. Music is taught in small, mixed ability groups throughout all the key stages and girls are encouraged to take up and instrument from an early age. Many of our students learn two instruments and some take lessons both in and out of school.
Instrumental Music Lessons
Girls may take individual music lessons at the school on any orchestral instrument. Lessons are also available for piano, guitar, singing, saxophone and drumkit.

Lessons are 30 minutes in duration and are taught during the school day on a rota system. If required, girls are able to hire an instrument or a reputable music retailer.

If your daughter would like to take up an instrument, please contact the Director of Music to organise a tryout with a teacher. For more information, please click on the related link, Instrumental/Singing lessons information sheet.

All students are encouraged to enter the annual Inter House Music competition in July which is judged by an external adjudicator.
Music in the Junior School
The girls in years 0 – 4 have two single lessons of 35 minutes a week. They are taught by a specialist music teacher in the music department.

Years 0 – 3 are involved in at least two productions during the academic year, usually in the autumn and Summer terms. Past performances have included Alice through the looking glass and The little Red Hen.

Students in years 4 – 5 participate in Junior choir once a week which rehearses during the lunch hour. They regularly perform in school concerts and assemblies.
Music in the Senior School
Girls in years 7 – 9 have one double music lesson lasting 1 hour and 10 minutes each week. Students have the option of furthering their musical studies at GCSE in Years 10 and 11.

The school currently adopts the Edexcel syllabus for GCSE level.
