Life at The Mount School – as described by our Head Girl, Anastasia Year 13
I have been at The Mount School since I was 11 years old, and now that I am 17 I can confidently tell you that I have had an unforgettable experience here. Growing from a child to a teenager is a very important stage of our lives, and one that shapes us to be who we are in the future. This school has provided the perfect environment for every single one of its students to grow, and mature in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.
The Mount School is celebrated for its capacity to go beyond focussing solely on academics, and widening the horizons of its students. With so much on offer and such fantastic prospects for every single girl, art, drama and sports are just the tip of the iceberg. The school does not focus simply on the curriculum of the girl’s subjects, and teaches the students about so much more. Culture is a big feature of the school, and to honour the diversity we have here, we celebrate and are taught about different international events such as Diwali, Chinese New Year and even St Patrick’s Day. I have particularly enjoyed the schools interest in teaching girls compassion, holding many different charity events for a vast number of organisations, from simple bake sales, to carol singing.
With many netball matches won by The Mount School teams, from years 7 to 11, the school is rightfully establishing a reputation amongst other schools for having strong sport abilities. What I love most about the school, is their dedication to making sports fun. The annual sports day promotes a healthy competitive atmosphere, whilst also allowing girls to bond. The sports day allows every single girl to participate, whether she is athletic or not. Apart from events such as running and long jump, there are other brilliant opportunities such as tug of war, or even the Maths relay, for girls with a preference for academic endeavours. At any Mount School event, no girl is left out.
The size of the school has allowed me to make countless friendships, and taught me how to interact with girls of any age. Having such a unique sized community means that you have the ability to know every single student on a first name basis. This means that we have an incredibly unified student body, always helping each other, be it with academic or personal issues.
The teachers are, for me, a highlight of the school. There are so many fantastic members of staff, who create an electrifying atmosphere in classes. The devotion of the teachers, and their ability to help students achieve outstanding results, meant that I found the jump from GCSE to A-Level difficult, solely because I was so enthusiastic about so many different subjects, I simply could not choose which to continue studying. Proof of the dedication of the teachers comes with the schools outstanding results, both at GCSE and A-Level, and the amount of students progressing on to top universities.
The sizes of the classes at The Mount School mean that each girl can be given individual attention, and teachers can cater to the strengths and weaknesses of every pupil. However, teachers do not simply serve the purpose of educators, with the tutor system in place here, every girl has a teacher who acts as a mentor. They provide advice and share their enthusiasm, tracking the progress of every girl individually. Especially in difficult teenage years, this extra support has helped me become a more independent, confident and positive person.
The students at The Mount School are all amazing people. The caring atmosphere means that every girl feels welcome. I have made wonderful friends here, with whom I am positive I will be in touch with for a long time. The school has encouraged me to reach amazing results, and has boosted my confidence, which in turn has lead to fantastic opportunities for me, such as becoming head girl, and applying for top universities.
I have had an unforgettable six years at The Mount School, and am certain of my own, and my classmate’s success because of all the support and encouragement we have been given here at The Mount School.
