Admissions Policy

The Admissions process for the Mount School varies depending on the age of the prospective pupil. All applicants, at any age, must complete the Registration Form and pay the registration fee, which is non-refundable, before any assessment may take place.

There are Open Mornings each term when parents and girls are able to come to the School and see the school at work. The dates for these open mornings are published on the website.

The Mount School believes and promotes that those with disabilities or Special Educational Needs should not be discriminated against and will take reasonable steps to improve accessibility for these pupils. The School will ensure that disabled pupils or those with special educational needs are not at a substantial disadvantage when applying for a place at the school. The School will endeavour to make reasonable adjustments for a pupil in relation to the entrance examination, open day or entry to the School. Please contact the registrar in writing if adjustments to access are necessary.

Early Years, Infant & Junior School: Reception – Year 6
Early registration for Reception is recommended. Pupils on the registration list are contacted in the December before they hope to enter the school. Pupils enter in the September Term following their fourth birthday.  We invite all of the applicants into school for an assessment morning, where they spend time with the Early Years’ Teacher/Keyworker and parents can talk to the Registrar.

Entry is possible into any year group, providing that there is a space available. For Years 1 to 6 the entry procedure is an in-class assessment while spending part or all of a day with the year group. This is so that we can judge whether or not a new pupil will fit happily into the class and will be able to keep up academically.

Senior School: Years 7-11

Year 7 entry to the Senior School is by examination. The main 11+ entrance examination is held in January and is also sat by applicants in our own Junior School. The examination consists of two papers, one in each of Mathematics and English. These are based on the Key Stage 2 syllabus so that it is equally fair to those from state primary schools as well as from independent schools. Places will be allocated to those who pass the examination and are considered to be able to make a positive contribution to the life of the school.

Occasional vacancies in the Senior School may occur during the year. In Years 7 – 9 applicants are asked to spend a day in school during which there are assessments and in which they have the opportunity to spend some time in class with our pupils.

Overseas Pupils
It is possible for girls from overseas to sit the entrance papers at their own school, under the supervision of the British Embassy or a nominated educational representative.

Notification of Offer
Where an applicant is offered a place at the School families will be contacted in writing.
  1. For 11+ entry into Year 7, this will be in early March.  Places will be held open until late March.  Exact dates will be given in the offer letter
  2. For girls entering the school at other times, notification of any offer will be made in writing following the assessment visit

The process for accepting a place involves completing the appropriate Acceptance Form and forwarding the deposit of £1250 by cheque made payable to “The Mount School Ltd”.  This deposit is held by the School until the pupil leaves the school; any outstanding fees or disbursements due will be deducted from it, and the remaining balance will be returned.  Should the place at the school not be taken up after the deposit has been paid, then this deposit shall be forfeited.
